Following Christ – Becoming A Christian

“We believe in God the Father. We believe in Jesus Christ. We believe in the Holy Spirit and He’s given us new life. We believe in the crucifixion. We believe that He conquered death. We believe in the resurrection. And He’s comin’ back again, we believe.”

This song, We Believe by the Newsboys has been such an eye opener for me. I love that this song brings us back to what’s really important; it’s not about denominations; it’s not about ‘I’m right, they’re wrong’; it’s about God; it’s about his son Jesus and it’s about the Holy Spirit. What’s really important is that God LOVES us! “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16. [Salt] does not care what denomination you are a part of; we care that you love the God who created you! ” The LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.” Genesis 2:7.

“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” John 1:14. Throughout the Old Testament scripture God promises a Savior to Israel, his chosen people. Jesus Christ, his one and only son is that promised Savior. Jesus came to earth for one purpose: to save the lost. The Bible tells us in Roman 3:23 “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”. Jesus Christ came to earth to bridge the gap between us and God. Through his sacrifice and death on the cross, He became our sacrificial lamb, blameless, and pure. He took on the sins of us all, that we may have eternal life through him. “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8. Jesus Christ endured the most terrible death, crucifixion on a cross, but even death could not hold him. “For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.” 1 Corinthians 15:3-5.

God wants to have a personal relationship with us, he wants our devotion. The first step to becoming a Christian is to accept that we fall short of the Glory of God, we are sinners and we need his forgiveness and mercy. We need to accept the Lord into our lives and ask him to make us into the beings he intended for us to be. God is anxiously awaiting you “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.” Revelation 3:20. God’s love is beyond anything you can imagine! Have you heard his voice? Have you opened the door? Don’t hesitate! God’s perfect love and mercy awaits you!

If you haven’t accepted Christ as your Savior it’s so simple and so rewarding. Here is sample prayer:

“Lord Jesus, I need You. Thank You for dying on the cross for my sins. I open the door of my life and receive You as my Savior and Lord. Thank You for forgiving my sins and giving me eternal life. Take control of the throne of my life. Make me the kind of person You want me to be.” (from CRU).
